Say “I do” to weight loss
Everyone wants to look and feel their best on their wedding day. As part of that goal, losing weight can often be a priority for couples. You are probably already wondering (and googling), ‘what is the best diet for a wedding?’ Or ‘when should you start a wedding diet plan?’
If you are on your way to being wed and plan to slim down for your big day, then you need to give yourself time to lose weight sensibly and healthily. Allow time for researching which diet will benefit you the most. Pay attention to detail and stay clear of any programme that seems too good to be true because it probably is! Easy, simple weight loss programmes do exist! Be sure to check out our Trim Trim programme for a guide on healthy and sensible weight loss. As part of this plan, we recommend our Celebrity Slim meal replacement shakes, they are perfect for wedding weight loss as they’re high in protein, high in fibre, low in carbs and low in calories!

If you are struggling with the diet or your new ‘way of eating’ perhaps due to expense or taste, focus more on portion control, the last thing you need before your big day is stress over a super restrictive diet. Keep in mind that weight loss does not come easy, it takes a lot of hard work and consistency. Motivation is the key, and what could be more motivating than looking and feeling amazing on your wedding day?
You must be realistic with your weight loss goals, don’t set yourself up for disappointment! The NHS suggests that losing 2lbs (1kg) per week is a healthy weight loss rate.
Proposing to weight loss
Before you start shredding for your wedding day, a great way to keep motivated is to take full length photos of yourself. Take photos of your front, back and side profile and keep them somewhere you would look at frequently, for example, on the fridge! The next step would be to take additional measurements pre-diet. Measure your waist, thigh, bicep, and hip circumference. This will keep up your motivation because weight fluctuates day-to-day, so the number on the scale might not reflect your hard work!
When you start your wedding weight loss journey, your body will need some time to adjust to your new way of eating so try not to weigh yourself every day. Just remember it will happen, you just have to be patient and stick with it!
Vowing to start
“Fail to plan, plan to fail” is an oldie but a goodie! When it comes to any health goals it is vital that you plan your meals, exercise and water intake. If you do not have the right foods in your kitchen, then you’re much more likely to slip up!
Consider clearing your pantry, fridge and freezer and only keep healthy foods in the house, this will minimise unnecessary snacking! Consider batch cooking as well, it can be overwhelming to come home after a long day at work and cook a healthy, nutritious meal. Slow cooking takes some of the pressure off at mealtimes and you will be less inclined to eat impulsively.
Remember to drink enough water! It is going to help with healthy digestion and will benefit your skin as well. Who doesn’t want glowing skin on their wedding day? Aim for 2-3 litres a day, if you are exercising frequently, drink more.
Eat more protein! Protein isn’t just for bulking up, it’s extremely beneficial when it comes to dieting. Upping your protein intake will help you feel fuller for longer, reduce cravings making you, in turn, less likely to snack. When losing weight for your wedding you should aim to eat protein with every meal, it boosts your metabolism and increases the number of calories burned! Win win!
When it comes to what you’re putting in your body, repeating meals frequently can become quite a bore. Search for a variety of different recipes to add different flavours or different kinds of proteins to your meals. This will help you stick to your plan because it will not feel as repetitive, and you’ll be less likely to go off course with your wedding diet!

Track your wedding weight loss
Logging what you eat and drink as well as tracking your exercise can be a huge motivator as it allows you to reflect on what works best for you. There are countless apps for tracking weight loss, one of the better being MyFitnessPal. It’s currently available for free on iOS and Android. The app will ask you to create a profile and you will be able to log your meals, weight and water intake. It’s a fantastic way of monitoring your wedding weight loss progress. The app contains a database of foods and allows you to create your own recipes. It will calculate your daily calories as well as providing you with the full nutritional information panel. Add friends and encourage each other by exchanging positive messages to stay motivated!
Start a weight loss journey union
Evidence suggests that when one partner in a couple begins their weight loss journey it encourages the other partner to begin their own, it results in what we know as ‘the ripple effect’
The person who didn’t start their weight loss journey until their partner did, lost at least 3% of their original body weight, which is considered to provide substantial health benefits.
Working out in a group is also a sufficient way to stay motivated, and you can have some fun with friends! Whether it’s your spouse to be, maid of honour, best man or the entire bridal party, it’s going to benefit you because you now have support and encouragement which ultimately leads to motivation. If you make plans to go to the gym with a friend, then you are more likely to go because your pal will be there! Working out together will push you further, so remember to keep up your pre-wedding workout with a friend or in a group.
Reward yourself for your hard work! Losing weight for your wedding can be more difficult than a regular weight loss plan due to those pre-wedding jitters! It is common for people to eat more in times of stress. One idea is to log each of your goals and milestones and associate them with a reward. For example, your first goal might be to lose 2lbs (1kg) or to workout consistently for a week, put a reward next to it! - Manicure/pedicure - Massage - Movie night - Go out for a meal (remember, healthy! Plan ahead and make sure it fits into your diet) - A new item of clothing - Running shoes – treat yourself to a new pair, you’ll be motivated to get moving in brand new joggers! - Gym kit – it’s always handy to have a gym kit to keep in your car or at work. Aim for a small gym kit so it’s not a hassle to drag around with you. - New headphones to listen to music while you’re working out! Get pumped with your favourite tunes. - Spa day at home or at the spa – if you’re exercising frequently as part of your wedding weight loss plan, then look after your muscles and your skin. It’ll beautify you for your big day! - Visit to the hairdressers - Bouquet of flowers - New book These are a few examples of what you can do to reward yourself for all your hard work. Push yourself, but don’t be too hard on yourself, otherwise you’ll start to lose the motivation.
